The running costs nobody mentions
An automation is not free to run. It sits on platforms that charge you monthly, and an agency that does not tell you this before you sign is setting you up for an unpleasant surprise. You pay these providers directly. We do not mark them up.
| What | Typical monthly cost |
|---|---|
| Automation platform (n8n / Make / Zapier) | £20 to £80 |
| AI model usage (Claude / OpenAI) | £5 to £100, driven by volume |
| SMS and WhatsApp messaging (Twilio) | Pennies per message |
| Typical total for a small business | £40 to £150 |
Questions about price
Why don't you publish an hourly rate?
Because it would put us on opposite sides. Hourly billing pays us more for being slow, and pays us nothing for being clever. We quote a fixed price against a defined outcome, so the risk of it taking longer than expected sits with us, where it belongs.
What are the running costs?
Automations sit on top of platforms that charge monthly. Expect roughly £20 to £80 a month for the automation platform (n8n, Make or Zapier depending on what we use), a few pounds to a few tens of pounds for AI usage, and pennies per message for SMS or WhatsApp. For a typical small business running two or three automations, budget £40 to £150 a month. You pay these providers directly, so there is no markup from us.
Is there a minimum contract?
No. A Quick Win is a one-off project. The Automation Partner retainer runs monthly and you can give notice. We would rather keep you because the work is good than because you are locked in.
What if it doesn't work?
We agree up front what the automation is supposed to change and how we will measure it. If it does not move that number, we fix it. That is included, not a change request.
Do you charge for the audit or the first call?
No. Both are free, and you are not obliged to do anything afterwards. We would rather find out early that we are not a fit than sell you something that does not help.
